- _n_f_s_d starts the _n_f_s(4) server daemons that handle client NFS requests.
-
- _b_i_o_d starts asynchronous block I/O daemons. This command is used on a
- NFS client to perform buffer cache read-ahead and write-behind.
-
- _b_i_o_3_d processes are the asynchronous kernel processes for NFS version 3.
- No daemon is necessary to start _b_i_o_3_ds. There is one _b_i_o_3_d associated
- with each mounted filesystem at mount time. If the NFS traffic to a
- filesystem increases, up to three more _b_i_o_3_d processes are spawned for
- that filesystem. When traffic subsides, these extra processes exit.
-
- OOOOPPPPTTTTIIIIOOOONNNNSSSS
- ----aaaa Allow the NFS server daemon to service client requests over
- both the UDP and TCP protocols. This is the default.
-
- ----pppp _p_r_o_t_o Allow the NFS server daemon to service client requests over
- either the UDP or the TCP protocols. The ----aaaa option overrides
- this selection.
-
- ----cccc _n_c_o_n_n_s Set an upper limit on the number of simultaneous connections
- the NFS server has open. By default this number is
- unlimited. _n_c_o_n_n_s can be equated with the total number of
- clients mounting files from this server.
-
- _n_s_e_r_v_e_r_s This is the number of NFS server daemons to start. On an
- Origin system, one nfsd server per CPU maximizes efficiency
- and performance. Having too many daemons can be wasteful of
- system resources. The default is the number of CPUs in the
- system or 4, whichever is larger.
-
- _n_c_l_i_e_n_t_s The number of asynchronous block I/O daemons. A good number
- for _n_c_l_i_e_n_t_s is 4. The default is 1.
-
- These daemons are started during system initialization from the
- /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_e_t_w_o_r_k script if the configuration flag nnnnffffssss is set on (see
- _n_e_t_w_o_r_k(1M)).

- When a file that is opened by a client is unlinked (by the server), a
- file with a name of the form ._n_f_s_X_X_X (where _X_X_X is a number) is created
- by the client. When the open file is closed, the ._n_f_s_X_X_X file is
- removed. If the client crashes before the file can be closed, the
- ._n_f_s_X_X_X file is not removed.
